Is this wave a wave? This cloud a cloud? And this mountain a mountain? At first sight it seems obvious. But as so often, first impressions can be deceptive. Karolin Back doesn’t use her camera to document the world but to shape it. Her pictures don’t show how something used to be but how it might possibly be.
While photography has always interrupted the flow of time, Karolin Back modifies it. To achieve this, she superimposes images, cuts them out, rearranges them and offers the viewer new perspectives on the seemingly familiar – be it a wave, a cloud, a mountain.
