Photographs by Torben Weiß
22 January – 3 March 2012
Darjeeling – an Indian district in the foothills of Himalayas in over two thousand meters elevation near the border to Nepal, a region world famous for its tea and in former times the preferred summer resort for British colonial officers.
In his photographs, Torben Weiß documents his trip on the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway to a tea plantation on the highlands. It is a report on the one-hundred-year old train and the lives of the people dependent on it; those cultivating the tea to be shipped all over the world from this area – it is a photographic journey along a line where history and the present meet.
