Paula Gortázar’s work shows how human attitudes are reflected in the private and public space. She employs formal accuracy to compose her pictures, which exude a great sense of tranquillity. This applies to the deserted, tidy interiors as well as to the photographs in which abandoned objects protrude from the snow or are quasi devoured by it.
The photographs, which were taken in an artificial winter sports resort in Andorra and the vast corridors of the European Parliament in Strasbourg and Brussels, serve as a revealing testimony of public space in Europe as well as an engaging visual contribution to the debate about the political and cultural situation of the latter.
